The purpose of this composition is to provide quality music for smaller bands or those with limited instrumentation. Its scoring will produce a good band sound even with flexible instrumentation. "Distant Light" is not a specific entity, rather it's the guiding light that compels us towards the attainment of our various hopes and desires. The work can be performed as an ensemble piece minus percussion, but I recommend a 10-25 piece small band setting.
Dedicated to bass clarinetist Julia Kinoshita, for her inspiration to create this music.
