Commissioned by Nangai Junior High School. Japanese culture recognizes the concept of "Ma", which is space, a gap, a pause in time, from with other things grow. It's something Japanese are used to but don't think about. It's often seen in traditional theaters, "Kyo-Gen" and "Noh" as well as the intervals seen in Sumo and Sword battles. In this work, I have incorporated a story and dance. While there's no specific storyline, there is a part in each movement that enhances the harmony with dance. An introduction and fanfare advances with spirit and grace; calm and elegant dances are in the second movement. A mysterious ternary-beat in the third movement proceeds to the fourth movement returning to the solemn motif of the second movement and goes back to the introductory fanfare which accelerates to the climax.
