Program Notes:
Commissioned in 2021 by the Hashima Kita High School Band, Gifu Prefecture. It premiered at ensemble contest by eight bandmembers and won gold prize at the Gifu Prefecture competition.
When I was asked about the instrumentation for this piece, I thought, "Let's make it light and flamboyant, like a modern French woodwind ensemble piece." This may be relatively unusual for me, as I tend to write heavy, structured pieces that are more toward German or Russian in style.
I intended for the piece to be full of French color and flair, not only in sound but also in content. The tempo setting and articulation are noted only as a reference, and I would be happy if you could enjoy the performance with your own imagination and ingenuity, based on your understanding of the worldview and style of this work.
Performance Notes:
It can be played by a sextet, septet, and octet. However, in the case of septet, add the 1st part (opt.) with priority.
