"Nirmal Hriday" is the fifth work in the commission series by the Tohoku Fukushi University Wind Orchestra. Under the direction of Taiken Matsuzaki, the piece was world-premiered by the university's wind orchestra and later revised for its first performance as a selected piece at the 59th All Japan Band Competition.

The term "Nirmal Hriday," derived from Sanskrit, translates to "Pure Heart" and refers to the facility "Home for the Dying Destitutes" founded in 1952 by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mother Teresa (born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu).

Mother Teresa spoke of the establishment with a vision that "No one, no matter how impoverished, should die alone on the streets from hunger or disease, unnoticed and unloved. At the very least, at the moment of death, they should be able to hold someone's hand, be comforted by affection and a smile, and be reassured that there is profound love in this world. It's crucial they realize they are a precious existence born into this world." This facility, transcending religious boundaries and filled with peace, is synonymous with Mother Teresa's legacy.

This theme was selected with the hope that it would offer students studying welfare an excellent opportunity to explore the spirit of Mother Teresa, a decision made in collaboration with Professor Matsuzaki.
