Pietro Mascagni's opera "Cavalleria Rusticana" is a hallmark of the Verismo opera movement, which defined an era of Italian opera. This work, characterized by its beautiful music and intense emotional expression, continues to be beloved by many.

About the Arrangement

The first wind band arrangement was created in 2007, and this second arrangement begins with a continuation of scenes in the first version.

The arrangement opens with the beautiful choral piece "Gli aranci olezzano," evoking the fresh morning scenery of Sicily. It then transitions to Santuzza's famous romanza "Voi lo sapete, o mamma," featuring a poignant solo by the English horn. This is followed by the serene "Intermezzo," leading into the rousing "Il cavallo scalpita," sung by the carter Alfio. Here, Mascagni's masterful use of modulation an harmony is fully displayed. The arrangement reaches a dramatic climax with the duet between Santuzza and Turiddu, "No, no, Turiddu, rimani," where the beautiful melodies intensify their emotional conflict. The piece concludes dramatically with Turiddu's murder by Alfio, plunging the Sicilian village into a state of terror.

Enjoy the world of the golden age of Italian opera.
