Musical interpretation of Einstein's predicted gravitational waves distorting space.
In March 2018, this piece was commissioned for the wind band of Shikamoto Junior High School in Edogawa, Tokyo. It was completed in July of that year.
[The gravitational wave] was first predicted by Albert Einstein in his general theory of relativity, published between 1915 and 1916. In simple terms, when a massive object exists, it distorts the surrounding space-time. As the object moves, these distortions propagate outward in wave-like patterns-these are what we refer to as gravitational waves.
For nearly a century, the existence of gravitational waves remained unconfirmed. However, in 2016, a historic breakthrough was made when they were detected in nature for the first time. This discovery marked a significant step forward in our understanding of the universe, bringing new insights to the field of astronomy.
