Warmly and refreshingly portrays the grandeur of the great outdoors for small bands.
This piece was written in 2025 as a commissioned work by Bravo Music.
The composer grew up in a lush, green environment surrounded by nature, spending nearly every day exploring the mountains and forests with friends, enjoying the beauty and wonder of the natural world until nightfall. The title, Forest Green, reflects both the color and the spirit of the forest, and the music warmly, refreshingly, and emotionally portrays the grandeur of the great outdoors.
The piece can be performed by as few as six players. Even without a tuba, the low brass and woodwinds provide a solid bass line, and it is also possible to perform the piece entirely without percussion - in some sections, wind players can switch to percussion instruments. If there are two or three percussionists, the parts can be divided accordingly. If only one is available, it is possible to perform using just timpani, or by placing a suspended cymbal and hi-hat nearby so that the performer can cover both the timpani and Percussion 1 parts simultaneously.
The trumpet, horn, and trombone parts (both 1st and 2nd) are written with careful consideration of range, allowing even less experienced players to enjoy playing a variety of melodies, harmonies, and obbligato lines without difficulty.
