This arrangement was created in 2023 as a small ensemble version of an original arrangement devised by conductor Takeshi Ooi, based on his idea to create a "story-driven adaptation of Tosca." It was written as the free choice piece for All Japan Band Competition of Hosei University Daini Junior and Senior High School, conducted by Manabu Kuroda. The arrangement follows this sequence of scenes:*****Act II"Confrontation between Scarpia and Cavaradossi""Vissi d'arte, vissi d'amore"Act III"Execution of Cavaradossi""Final Scene"*****In this arrangement, Ooi has incorporated many detailed ideas, such as adjusting rhythms in the vocal lines to reflect the natural phrasing of the original lyrics. When performing this piece, be sure to compare it closely with the original opera score, and aim to build a dramatic interpretation by deepening your understanding of the lyrics and the dramatic context.- When performing in band competitions, it is recommended to cut rehearsal number [C].- If a harp is available, the keyboard percussion parts from [D] to [F] may be omitted.- The alto saxophone solo from [D] to [F] may be substituted with another instrument depending on the player's technical level.- The rifle shot in Act III can be mimicked by popping a balloon with a pin.
