Program Notes:
Wind Beyond portrays a gentle breeze and the hopes for the future that lie beyond it. The piece opens with calm and delicate music, like softly drifting air moving quietly through space. It evokes the image of a small wind gradually emerging and beginning its journey into the distance.
In the middle section, the music transforms into a more energetic and driving passage. The wind steadily gains strength, rushing forward as it sweeps through changing landscapes. Afterwards, the music regains its tranquility, shifting into sonorities that awaken a sense of nostalgia and distant memories.
As the opening theme returns, accompanied by modulations, the music begins to reveal new expressions. This represents the passage of time and the slowly changing scenery of the future. Near the end, the music gently embraces everything that has come before while taking on a slightly more brilliant character. The wind once again moves forward, yet rather than ending in a grand or dramatic manner, the piece quietly closes, leaving the lingering impression of a small breeze continuing onward into the future.
About the Instrumentation
This work is centered around a core instrumentation (Part 1, Part 3, Part 4, and Part 5), with optional additions of Part 2, String Bass (Extra Option), Marimba, and Percussion. The ensemble may be arranged flexibly according to the performance situation, from a minimum of four parts to a maximum of eight parts.
Regarding the String Bass (Extra Option)
This optional part may only be added when an instrument other than Tuba or String Bass is used for Part 5. Please use it when a richer reinforcement of the low register is desired.
