Charming flexible trio depicting winter birds through lively, gentle themes.
"From autumn through winter, small birds puff up their feathers to protect from the cold, giving them a fluffy and adorable appearance. This work was composed with the image of those charming little birds.
The work is broadly divided into three sections:
The opening section begins with a lively theme presented by Part 1 (originally the oboe). It portrays small birds perched on tree branches on a winter morning, chirping cheerfully, engaged in lively conversation.
The middle section, beginning with the melody in Part 3 (originally the bassoon), is written in a gentle style, as though a mother bird were singing a lullaby.
In the final section, the lively tempo returns, and the music concludes by revisiting the opening theme.
This work was commissioned by Ongaku no Aru Kisetsu, a music project based primarily in Kagoshima, and was originally composed in 2019 for Trio D'anches, an ensemble consisting of oboe, clarinet, and bassoon.
For this edition, the work has been arranged in a flexible format so that it can be performed by a variety of instruments. I hope performers will enjoy the ensemble experience while making use of the unique characteristics of their instruments and chosen ensemble. "
